With rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Reyes can improve the look and/or functionality of a patient’s nose. Also called a nose job, this plastic surgery procedure is extremely popular.
A nose job can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Rhinoplasty may also help correct a birth defect or deformity caused by an accident and improve breathing problems.
A rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure and must only be performed on candidates who meet the necessary health and safety requirements.
Are You a Good Rhinoplasty Candidate?
When you visit our office for a rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Reyes will ask you about your complete medical history, your expectations from the rhinoplasty, and any allergies you may have. He will examine your nose to study whether a rhinoplasty surgery will benefit you.
If he deems you fit for the procedure, he will proceed to inform you about the steps involved in preparation, the surgery, and recovery.
Smokers will be asked to quit smoking in the time leading up to the day of the surgery. This will help them heal more quickly and with fewer complications. Individuals who are take blood-thinning medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin will be asked to cease taking them, since they can minimize bleeding during the surgery.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure
The rhinoplasty procedure begins with the administration of anesthesia to ensure that the patient is comfortable for the duration of the surgery. Once it has taken effect, incisions are made.
For rhinoplasty, two different options are available in terms of incisions: open and closed. Open rhinoplasty involves the creation of an incision on the columella, which is the strip of tissue at the bottom of the nose (between the nostrils). The skin of the nose is then lifted, providing Dr. Reyes with a great deal of visibility.
Closed rhinoplasty involves the creation of incisions within the nostrils. This is a less-invasive method and hides any post-surgical marks quite well, but it can only be used to enact certain changes.
Once the chosen incisions are created, changes are made in the internal tissues of the nose. These can include alterations in the soft tissue, bone, and cartilage of the nasal architecture. In some cases, grafts may be needed to bolster the strength of sections of the nose. After alterations are complete, sutures will be used to close the incisions.
Recovery and Healing
You will need to careful during the recovery process after rhinoplasty surgery since your nasal tissues will be temporarily weakened. Avoid anything that could cause trauma to the nose, including playing sports.
There will be bruising and swelling in the areas around the nose for a time. These issues will be temporary and will ameliorate. Any pain felt can be treated with pain-control medication as prescribed by Dr. Reyes.
